Top Ten Books On My Fall TBR List

Or as I like to call it, books I promise I’m going to read soon, but probably won’t.  I haven’t been the best at actually following through on reading what I plan on reading.  But I’m pretty sure this time will be different, because there are quite a few that I really need to read!  I had a lot of trouble limiting it to ten,  so I think I’ll be having a fun-filled fall full of reading!

  1. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak: The movie trailer and glowing reviews made me want to read The Book Thief.  Part of me wants to wait until the movie comes out but part of me wants to read it now!
  2. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.  Now that I’ve seen the movie, I feel like I can re-read City Of Bones and then move on to reading the rest of the series.
  3. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein.  Another book I’ve heard great things about, and I think it’s time I need to know what everyone’s talking about!
  4. Daylighters by Rachel Caine.  I’ll be sad to see Morganville Vampires end, but I’m also looking forward to it because after the cliffhanger in Fall Of Night.
  5. The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle.  It’s a post-apocalyptic novel that focuses on the Amish.  How could I not want to read it?
  6. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.  If I’m going to read The Mortal Instruments, I might as read Infernal Devices.  Especially since I got them all on sale!
  7. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi.  I keep meaning to read it, but never seem to get around to it…
  8. Beautiful Chaos/Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Because I really need to finish the series.
  9. Allegiant by Veronica Roth.  I feel like an explanation isn’t needed for this one. Also: I need to know what’s going on!
  10. Between Shades Of Gray by Ruta Septys.  I’m starting to think needing to know what people are talking about is a trend this fall, because this is another book I want to read so I know what people are talking about.  Also, it does sound really interesting and totally up my alley.

June Wrap-Up

So, I thought I’d recap the month of June, blogging wise.  I’ve seen it on a couple of book blogs I follow, and I kind of like the idea.

So, I’ve read and reviewed 18 books in the last month.  I’m not going to link to every single book, but you can find all of my book reviews in the 2012 archives.  Just scroll down to June.

I’ve also done all the Top 10 Tuesday posts for the month of June, and I have to say, I’m so glad I decided to participate.  I tend to read books for fun, think about it on a pretty superficial level and leave it at that.  But it does get me to think about what I’m reading in an interesting, fun and different way.  Plus, I’ve found some cool blogs because of it, and it’s interesting to see how the lists are similar to or are different from my own list.

And reading!  I’ll be reading, of course.  Here’s what I plan on reading this month:

  • Cinder.  I’m almost done with it, so a review should be coming in the next week or so.
  • Awakening by Karice Bolton.  Another book I’m almost done with, but I’m not in any hurry to finish it.
  • The First Queen Of England: The Myth Of Bloody Mary by Linda Porter.  It’s definitely interesting, and one I need to finish soon.
  • An Abundance Of Katherines by John Green.  I’m currently on a John Green kick, especially after reading Looking For Alaska.
  • Supernaturally by Kierstan White.  I need to finish this one this month, because the next book, Endlessly, comes out later this month.

Those are just a few of the books I’m reading right now, but there are definitely more books that are just waiting to be read, so expect the normal level of reviews I’ve been doing all year.  Oh, and my reading challenge goal keeps going up.  I started out the year with 115, and I’ve since increased it to 200 books.  It might change again, but I should probably wait a while before I do that.

And as usual, I’ll keep talking about music, podcasts and more!  Here’s a great month, full of fun things!

Slow And Steady Wins The Race

Today was relatively productive, at least in comparison to the last few days.  I managed to write quite a bit yesterday, and focused all of my attention on my mistaken identity novel.  I think I’ll focus most of my attention on my mermaid one, since I have a lot to write for that one.

  • Mistaken Identity One: I’m setting things up but it’s moving really slow, so I may need to skip ahead to the action and fill in the rest later in the month when I can’t think of anything to write.  I’m at 6,671 right now.
  • Mermaid Pact: I didn’t work on it yesterday, but I’m planning on writing 4,180 and 5,847 words today so that I’m 1-2 days behind.  I’m still at 2,488.

I have a grand total of 9,159.  I think my plan is to write 4,187 for my mermaid one, switch over to the mistaken identity one and get to 8,335.  Then I’ll switch back to the mermaid one if I’m still in a writing mood.  That’s my plan for tomorrow.  I’m slowly catching up though, and if I keep up this pace, I’ll be all caught up in no time!

Yesterday Was A Smashing Day

In terms of writing, yesterday was a really good day.  I’m currently at 7,759 words, well ahead of where I should be.  Yesterday was just one of those days where I couldn’t stop writing, and I figured I might as well take advantage of it.  I’m definitely going to keep up the pace, if I can, because you never know when you’ll need those extra words.  Maybe I can use the time to work on my other stuff…

There’s all kinds of things in store for this novel and I’ve even added a few new characters.  I’m hoping I can remember them all.  If not, I’ll pretend like I remember their names.

According to the stats page, I wrote 3,871 words today!  So if I keep up the same pace (or at least somthing very similar), then I’m set to finish on August 19.

Like that would actually happen…not in a million years would I finish *that* early.  It’s likely, but…I tend to be a procrastinator, and if I do finish early, it’s likely to be a day or two early, not close to 2 weeks early.

On to…baking!  It’s been way too hot to bake, although I could default to the middle of the night, which isn’t too warm.  And honestly, I prefer baking in the middle of the night anyway.  But lately, I’ve been feeling…weird.  And I haven’t really felt like it anyway, but I want to, since I’ll have to return the cookbooks I have soon.  Unless I can renew them, of course, which I’ll try to do.

I think that’s it for today, so have a good one!

Halfway There!

I’ve reached the halfway mark!  At least in terms of wordcount.  It was very exciting, and I definitely need to start wrapping things up.  I have a definite idea in mind now for it.  It’s strange how everything becomes more clear after the halfway point.  Currently, I’m at 25,069, so while I’m not caught up, I will be soon!

As for my other writing, I did work on a couple characters, as well as doing my other projects for the week.  I definitely like splitting them up over 2 or 3 days, as opposed to one each day.  Once I start writing, I want to keep going with something, so that’s what I’m going to stick with.  It is working, and since I’m all about doing what works these days, I should definitely do that.  I’m definitely hoping to have a rough draft finished for Turning Point, the Giant Prehistoric Chicken, and my NCIS fanfic by November  Maybe even one or two of my HP fanfics, depending on how much I write for them.  It’s weird, but exciting at the same time.

That’s about it, so have a great day!

Day 10!

So we’re now on Day 10 of Camp, and it’s going really well!  Despite some…adjustment issues I’ve had, it’s still been really fun, and I’m so glad I’m doing Camp NaNo.

So, yesterday.  I managed to finish all of my projects, and honestly, I think it’s totally doable to work on my other stuff during NaNo.  Of course, I will be working on two, so the last 10 days haven’t been completely accurate in terms of writing, but I think it’s doable.  Of course, it also depends on how close I am to being done on my different things, but my NCIS fanfic and the Giant Prehistoric Chicken should be done by then.  And Turning Point might be done as well.  I’ll definitely have a better idea by November, so it looks like most of my decision-making will be in October.

I did end up writing for Camp- I wasn’t sure how much I was going to write, but I did know I would write.  At first, I was going to write 667, but I kept writing and the next thing I knew, I was at 17,157!  I’m pretty happy with the amount I wrote, considering I didn’t have to write at all, much less 2071 words.  I was going to try writing more, but at 17,157, I felt bored so I figured that was a good place to stop.

I’m also hoping that I can work on my plot bunnies this week, because I’ve been neglecting them, and I don’t want to put them off until October.  The sooner I have them done, the better- I know I’ll be glad once I’m done planning everything, because it’ll be one less thing to focus on.  I’m not sure what I’ll work on, but I definitely need to work on something.  That, combined with my plan of doing Camp NaNo in the mornings, and then other stuff in the afternoon, and I should be busy over the next week!

Yesterday Was Awesome!

I’m impressed because I managed to get the 1667 I need 2 days in a row!  Writing most of it in the morning really helped, because I got most of it done.  There’s not much to report, and I think I might have to change a theory or two.  There’s definitely stuff that I ended up writing that could be a good possibility, so that’s fun!

As for the million other things I’m writing, I think I’m definitely going to try spreading them out over the week.  My new plan is to do my Camp NaNo stuff in the morning, at least as much as I can, and then go on to my other stuff.  Unless I need a break from Camp, in which case, I’ll do something else.

My word count is 15,086, and I wrote an extra 1750 words!  I’m definitely going to try writing 1667 today so that I have some extra words in case I need them, since I haven’t wanted to work on it too much.  However, I might take today off.  Or maybe I’ll just write, and see what comes out.  I’ve mostly been doing just enough so that I’m not too far behind, because if I’m going to be behind, I want the gap to be manageable.  I hope that makes sense!

Yesterday, I wrote a total of 3949, if you count the 2 other novels I worked on, so I managed to get a bunch of writing done.  Honestly, it feels good to be ahead in my word count, and I hope I can keep it up, even if it’s just a few extra words.

I also got some reading done yesterday, so hopefully I’ll have a couple book reviews sometime next week.  I’ve also been doing some cooking, and I really am starting to love the whole idea of checking cookbooks out of the library.

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend!

I Was More Productive Than I Thought I Would Be

I got a bunch of writing done-  not a big surprise, but I am managing to write in months that aren’t November, which is a big achievement.  Plus, I’m very slowly working on projects in months that are not October, which is also an achievement, because it gives me time to think, and plan (at least a little).  I never considered myself much of a planner when it comes to NaNo, but the one project that I had the least trouble with last year is the one I had the most notes on…which is especially strange, since I went into November with some vague ideas.  Notes are good, at least in a very limited experience.  I don’t know if I’ll outline or not, but at the very least, a list of potential conflicts is necessary.  And right now, I’m all about trying new things, so maybe I’ll eventually work my way up to a very vague outline.  Anyhoo, I wrote just under 2000 words last week!

I only worked on one character from my funeral plot bunny, which is okay.  I used a different worksheet for Hannah, which I like as much as the last one.  There are some similarities, but some differences too.  Maybe I’ll combine questions from both for future plot bunnies.  I definitely want to have some kind of profile/biography for most of the family members, even if it’s only one page.  It’ll be a lot to work on, but I figure if I do 2-3 week, I should be able to get through most of them by November.

I worked a little on my pact plot bunny- I have a bunch of different ideas and thoughts and possibilities, so there’s a lot to think about!  I have a few lists to make, and I’ll work on those this week.  I just need to pick something, but I have no clue what I want to go with right now.  Lists might help with that.

There’s not much to report on the weight-loss front- I stayed the same, which is okay.  At least I didn’t gain anymore weight.  But honestly, I’m not exactly trying either.  I don’t want to go to the gym, because I’m lazy.  And not even my biggest loser workouts are appealing right now.  I’ve been eating okay, but not as good as I could.  I did make a bunch of food this month, but unfortunately, I didn’t like any of the food I made.  The desserts were fine…unfortunately, I can’t live off dessert.  And I don’t have a big sweet tooth anyway.  It is part of my food experiment though- I will come across things I don’t like, but I’ve also made things I love, so it all balances out.  And how will I know if I like or dislike something if I don’t make it?

Speaking of things I like, I went to the library a couple times last week, and I was super productive!  I got reading done, and most of my writing too.  I might not be able to eat in the library, but I sure am productive!
