June Wrap-Up

So, I thought I’d recap the month of June, blogging wise.  I’ve seen it on a couple of book blogs I follow, and I kind of like the idea.

So, I’ve read and reviewed 18 books in the last month.  I’m not going to link to every single book, but you can find all of my book reviews in the 2012 archives.  Just scroll down to June.

I’ve also done all the Top 10 Tuesday posts for the month of June, and I have to say, I’m so glad I decided to participate.  I tend to read books for fun, think about it on a pretty superficial level and leave it at that.  But it does get me to think about what I’m reading in an interesting, fun and different way.  Plus, I’ve found some cool blogs because of it, and it’s interesting to see how the lists are similar to or are different from my own list.

And reading!  I’ll be reading, of course.  Here’s what I plan on reading this month:

  • Cinder.  I’m almost done with it, so a review should be coming in the next week or so.
  • Awakening by Karice Bolton.  Another book I’m almost done with, but I’m not in any hurry to finish it.
  • The First Queen Of England: The Myth Of Bloody Mary by Linda Porter.  It’s definitely interesting, and one I need to finish soon.
  • An Abundance Of Katherines by John Green.  I’m currently on a John Green kick, especially after reading Looking For Alaska.
  • Supernaturally by Kierstan White.  I need to finish this one this month, because the next book, Endlessly, comes out later this month.

Those are just a few of the books I’m reading right now, but there are definitely more books that are just waiting to be read, so expect the normal level of reviews I’ve been doing all year.  Oh, and my reading challenge goal keeps going up.  I started out the year with 115, and I’ve since increased it to 200 books.  It might change again, but I should probably wait a while before I do that.

And as usual, I’ll keep talking about music, podcasts and more!  Here’s a great month, full of fun things!

Top 10 Non-Book Blogs I Read

Top 10 Tuesday is hosted by the lovely folks over at The Broke And The Bookish.  Every week, people from all over share their lists based on the topic of the week.

This topic is definitely up my alley!  In fact, I may have to share some of my favorite book blogs, but that is a topic for another day.  There are so many I could share, but I somehow managed to narrow things down.  Some are ones I’ve shared before, and others are not.  I hope you enjoy them, and maybe even find a new blog or two to read.

My Top 10 Favorite Blogs That Aren’t About Books:

  1. Joy The Baker: I love Joy’s blog (and her cookbook), and her enthusiasm for life and baking are infectious.  Her blog brings a smile to my face.
  2. My Baking Addiction: I love baking, and this blog is one of my favorite food blogs.  Everything looks so good, and it is such a good blog for anyone who’s into baking.
  3. 101 Cookbooks: I love Heidi’s blog for a few reasons.  The recipes are meat-free, which is perfect for vegetarians, and everything is simple and delicious.
  4. I love Girl On The Contrary.  Her blog is hilarious, and it always makes me laugh.  She has some great stories.
  5. A Lego A Day is pretty cool.  But then again, pictures of Lego’s are pretty cool.  Posts are pretty sporadic, but it’s an interesting and different take on the photo-a-day project.
  6. No list is complete without Cake Wrecks.  It’s horrifying, funny, and can render you speechless…all at the same time.  The commentary is what really makes the blog though.
  7. Dr. Grumpy.  I love his blog, and it is another funny one.  He has some great stories, and you definitely think about the healthcare industry in a different way.
  8. Forty-sixth at grace is such a pretty blog.  I love the photos and the links that she posts.
  9. House Of Turqoise is another blog that has a lot of pretty photos.  And it makes me wish I had a house to decorate.
  10. Since I mentioned Joy the Baker, I have to mention Shutterbean!  Cool recipes that I need to try, fun lists, and lots of pretty pictures to look at…it quickly became a favorite of mine.
  11. And because I feel like adding another one, I give you…Hyperbole and a Half.  The pictures remind me of the ones over at The Oatmeal, and I wish updates were more regular.  But at least I have plenty of archives to look through.

Sharing Is Caring!

Here are some more blogs I thought I’d share with everyone.  I’ve come across them pretty recently, and they are pretty cool.  It’s actually occurred to me that I should probably add all of the blogs I read to Google Reader, since there are a lot of them.  It would be nice to have them all in one place, instead of going to each blog…

Meadowbrook Farm is pretty cool.  It has recipes and lots of photos.  I like the photos, they’re pretty!

Black*Eiffel also has some cool photos.  For some reason, I’ve been looking at a lot of photo blogs lately.

I also The Drifter And The Gypsy.  It’s mostly photos of different things that inspire the blogger.

I came across The Freedom Experiment because I saw a link to a post on gratitude on another blog I read.  I’m not completely sure about, but I’m intrigued enough to keep reading it for a while.

The Party Dress has some pretty cool party ideas.  I haven’t looked at the magazine or store, but the blog is really cool.

I think the last one for today is pretty light, which is another photography blog.    The photos are so pretty…

I think the next time I do one of these, I need to focus on the wordpress blogs I like.

Time For Sharing

Today, I’m sharing some of my new favorite blogs.  I like to check out what other bloggers read, and I got into this thing where a blog would lead me to another blog which would lead me to yet another blog.  And today is the result of that clicking.

Amongst The Oaks has some beautiful photographs.

I also like The Center Of My Self, which is an interesting blog.  It’s a little self-help-ish and motivational, but it’s still pretty interesting.

The Cottage Nest is also cool.  I love the photographs, and it feels very home-like.

I am nowhere near getting married, nor do I know anyone who is getting married.  But I really like Snippet & Ink, which is another blog that’s (mostly) photos.

Another favorite is simplesong, which is done by someone who owns a paper goods shop.  It’s another one that’s heavy on the photos, but it’s interesting to see some of the things she’s working on, as well as some of the things that she likes.

I think the final one for today is Patchwork Harmony, which is a home decorating blog.  It focus on a mix of vintage and contemporary things, and so many of the items featured are so cute!

I really like interior design and home decorating blogs.  They show some amazing rooms and finds.  And they’re fun to look at!  Maybe I’ll get some inspiration for a birthday present for my grandma…

Laugh Until You Cry!

I have been reading Cake Wrecks a lot over the last few days.  It’s absolutely hysterical- funny pictures combined with even funnier commentary means that I have laughed until I’ve started crying.

Half the time I don’t know if I should be horrified, confused, or laugh.  Or possibly all three.  It’s been known to happen.  If I ever need a good laugh, Cake Wrecks is definitely at the top of my list.  It’s rare that I laugh ’til I cry, but Cake Wrecks manages to do this rather frequently.

Also on my list is Doctor Grumpy!  It’s a blog written by a doctor, who blogs about funny headlines and news stories and weird products out in the world, but mostly it’s about life as a doctor and the funny/bizarre/annoying patients he encounters.

And Doctor Grumpy led me to This Is Not Artisan.  Basically, this woman posts about different processed foods that have “artisan” on the label, and points out how they’re not really artisan.  I know that description doesn’t sound like it would be funny, but it is a lot funnier than it sounds.  Seriously, go check it out.  With things like artisan Tostitos (the very first post) and Artisan Cola Soda Syrup (one of the more recent posts), how can you not be baffled by the things that have artisan slapped on?

Somehow, things always seem to be better when I’m crying because I’m laughing!
