I LOVE The Olympics!

Summer Olympics!  They’re here!  I’ve anxiously been awaiting the Olympics, because it’s one of my favorite events ever.  Here are my thoughts as I watched the Opening Ceremony.

I loved that there were children’s choirs singing songs from Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and that each country had something special.  Seriously cool.

I also loved the homage to WWI.  And seeing the stadium change as England changed?  Also cool.  Forging the rings was pretty amazing.  It’s one time I wish I were there.  And that smell-o-vision existed.

I loved that entrance!  Very cool.  Seriously, James Bond and the Queen teaming up?  I wonder how they got her to agree to that.  The Peter Pan tribute, and actual doctors and nurses…a very nice touch.  As was the tribute to the military.

I LOVED seeing J.K. Rowling reading, and I screamed.  Seriously.  It confused my grandma, who I think figured it out a couple minutes later.  And a big balloon Voldemort!  And Mary Poppins!  I really should watch Mary Poppins again.

Loved the video with Rowan Atkinson- it made me giggle.  And then I laughed.

Great music choices.  Bad time to make cookies, but a great time to paint my nails.  Pink sparkles are awesome people.  Maybe I should take a picture…

The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks…who’s next?  Oh, I know, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen!  Air guitar!

Spice Girls.  They should play them.  Rap and the U.K.?  Interesting.  Loved the bit with the internets.  I am slightly disappointed by the lack of Spice Girls.  Maybe they’re trying to forget them?  Oh, and I’m surprised it took this long for David Beckham to make an appearance.  You’d think he’d show up earlier in the ceremony.

I don’t get why Ryan Seacrest is interviewing people.  It’s just weird.  And honestly, doesn’t one of his 50 million other jobs need him for something?

Parade of nations!  It’s always cool watching it because of all the different countries and their outfits and stuff.

81 countries of 200+ have never won medals.  Interesting.  Argentina is a sea of blue but nothing spectacular about their outfits.

I love that all the flags are hanging out at Glastonbury Tor.  The people from Bermuda wearing Bermuda shorts?  Ironic.  Djibouti is a nice name for a country.  You’d think France would be better dressed.  I like what Guam’s wearing.  Very flower-y.  The independent Olympic Athletes seem to be having the most fun.  Seriously, they danced.  Everyone else seems kind of solemn.  Jordan and Kazakhstan had some pretty cool outfits.  Marshall Islands look pretty festive.  Mexico also had some colourful outfits.

I’ve never heard of Tuvalo.  That’s the cool thing about the Parade of Nations.  All the countries I’ve never heard of and all the countries I don’t think about…except for during the Parade Of Nations.  It’s going by so fast…and yet it’s taking a while.’

I still don’t like our Opening Ceremony outfits.  They’re a bit too sailor-ish.  Then again, they were designed by Ralph Lauren…And is it just me, or is it weird that pro basketball players are in the Olympics?  Because I think that’s a little weird.

And seeing the UK athletes enter was really cool.  The Queen doesn’t look too interested but maybe she’s tired or something.  Anyway, it’s always cool seeing the athletes from the host country come in.  You’d think they’d look more excited.

Fireworks were pretty awesome.  And you can’t forget about the flag, the cauldron, the torch relay.  It’s just so fun and exciting and I love the ceremony of it.  The lighting of the cauldron was just so cool, and I got goosebumps watching it.  Paul McCartney’s performance was just okay for me.

The final verdict: Pretty freakin’ awesome.  It was fun and quirky and I loved every minute of it.  I loved the literary references (the ones I caught anyway) and it made me even more excited about the Olympics.  Yes, that is possible (in case you’re wondering).

It’s going to be a fun 17 days!

Olympics!

I know I’m deviating from my usual weekly post on music and podcasts.  But.  I need to talk about the Olympics.  They’re almost here!  Seriously, if I could watch the Olympics all day, I would.

Of course, I’m super excited about gymnastics, swimming and diving.  I’ll probably watch trampoline (yes, that is an actual event)  and volleyball.  Maybe equestrian, if I happen to catch it.  And probably track.  No more softball or baseball, which is sad.

I looked over the schedule, and had no idea what athletics was.  Apparently that’s what they’re calling track.  Seriously, you can’t call it track and field?  But the opening and closing ceremonies should be cool.  I doubt they’ll be able to top Bejing’s opening and closing ceremonies, but that is a really tough act to follow.

July 27th to August 12 will be a super fun time.  Plus, the Olympics are a great way to break up the boredom of summer.  And there will actually be something fun to watch.  I’ve never been a huge fan of the winter Olympics, so I don’t watch it to the extent I’ll watch the summer Olympics.

If anyone wants to check out the schedule for the Olympics, or to get your Olympic fix, check out the summer 2012 website.  You can be sure I’ll be talking about the olympics a lot!

Season/Series Finale Time

Okay, season finale time has come and gone for me.  It feels like t.v. has been over for a while with all the re-runs.  Seriously, there were a lot of new episodes in the fall, and once Thanksgiving arrived, it feels like it’s been 1-2 new episodes of each thing I watch a mnoth.  Has it always been like this?

Anyway, I’m sad to see House and In Plain Sight go.  I jumped on the In Plain Sight bandwagon a little too late, so I’ll have to hunt down the previous seasons and watch everything from the beginning.  I thought it was a really good finale and I think I’m going to miss it.

Other shows that I watch that have been cancelled: Terra Nova, GCB and Pan Am.  Terra Nova was interesting, but I didn’t realize it only aired in the fall, and that the finale was back in December or something.  Which definitely explains why it wasn’t on after that.  GCB is funny, and while I liked it, it’s also not a surprise that it was cancelled.  The same goes for Pan Am.

Let’s see…I pretty much gave up on Revenge, Person Of Interest, and CSI, and I may have to get them on DVD.  But I have been watching Once Upon A Time, Gray’s Anatomy and NCIS regularly.

So, NCIS first.  They were building up to the finale, and that was a doozy of an episode.  I have no idea who’s okay, and who isn’t.  I’m assuming Jimmy had his wedding, which would have been nice to see.  I have no idea who will be okay, and who won’t be okay.  We know someone (or even multiple someones) dies, but I’m hoping it’s not Gibbs and his team.  I feel like it’s going to be a long summer, waiting, and wondering what happened.

Once Upon A Time: I definitely need to watch it again, because I’ve completely forgotten what I wanted to say about it.  But I liked it, even though they had to drag out Emma kissing Henry to bring him back.  And the mist at the end!  It’s another show where I know I have to wait to see what happens…even though I don’t want to wait, because I want to know now!  It was a good episode, though.   I can’t stop thinking about that mist and what it means.

Gray’s Anatomy: Oh.  My.  God.  At least the writers aren’t scared to do random yet horrible stuff to the characters.  Lexie’s dead?  What?!?!  And the plane crash and no one finding them!  They’d better be okay!  And I hope they get found by someone.  September really does seem so far away.  Will they all go their separate ways?  Will Kepner manage to find a job as a surgeon?  How will Mark deal with Lexie’s death?  Are they sure Lexie is dead?  Because I refuse to believe it.

HOUSE!  We need to talk about House.  Such a good way to end the series, and I’m glad they brought so many people back.  I really thought House died for a while there, but of course, he’s not going to die.  That would be too easy.  Such a good ending for House, and I’m pretty happy with it.  I do wonder what will happen to House after Wilson dies, but alas, we will never know.  I thought that the Wilson dying of cancer thing was a little lame, but at the same time, I’m surprised it was something that wasn’t done before.  I loved the retrospective they aired before the finale, and so true to the spirit of the show.

So You Think You Can Dance is back!  I’m excited, and I’m glad I started watching it last summer.  I think it’ll be a good season, if the first episode is any indication.

In other t.v. news, I got the pilot episodes of Game Of Thrones, Downton Abbey and Walking Dead.  After hearing several podcasters talk about Downton Abbey and Walking Dead, I finally figured it was time to see at the least the first episodes of each show.  As for Game Of Thrones…I didn’t care for the book, but I think it would be an interesting t.v. show.  So what better way to find out than to watch at least the first epsisode?  I’m definitely glad I can buy individual episodes of shows on iTunes.

I think that’s all the t.v. news for today.

T.V. Time

It’s been a while since I talked about t.v., so I suppose it’s time to talk about it.

Well, stuff is back on now.

Mostly.

I watched the season finale of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.  I used to watch it all the time, and then watched it sporadically.  But just when I got used to watching it again, it goes off the air!  I was surprised that I wasn’t crying, but then the last few minutes, with the old clips happened, and I was crying.  I’m sad, but they had a good run.

And for some reason, I felt the need to watch American Idol this week.  I have no idea why, since the last time I watched it was when the pants on the ground guy auditioned.  But my grandma was watching it, and I wanted to be with my grandma, so I watched it with her.

I missed Once Upon A Time, because I forgot it was on.  And promptly remembered that it was one after it was over.  Because that is how things work.  I’m slightly annoyed that they showed a new episode of NCIS, only to take a break for a few week.  And I still need to catch up on Revenge and Person Of Interest.  For some reason, it’s getting harder and harder to remember to watch them.

I honestly can’t think of anything else, other than I’m excited that House is coming back on Monday with a new episode.  Have a great weekend!

5 Shows I’m Glad I Watch

Today’s post is about the 5 shows I’m glad I watch.  They are in no particular order.

  • NCIS: I’m so glad I “discovered” this show back in January.  There a lot I like about the show- from the character relationships to the dialogue to the characters in general, it’s on my must-watch list.
  • Once Upon A Time: It’s done by the same people who did lost, and I really like the show.  Plus, there are random things that end up on the show, and it’s interesting to see what they are every week.
  • House: I wasn’t sure about what it would be like with Cuddy gone, but it’s starting to get back to the show I love.  The last season or so, it got a little weird.  But it seems to be getting back on course.
  • Pan Am: It’s fun, and while I don’t usually watch the retro/period piece t.v. shows, this one got my interest.  It’s interesting to say the least, and I do like the fact that one of the girls is a spy.
  • Grey’s Anatomy: It’s another show that got a little weird for me, but at least no one’s having hallucinations about a dead fiancee that they’re having sex with.  The character relationships are interesting, not to mention complicated, and there’s always something crazy happening.

So, some are new, some are old, and another, while not new, is new to me!  I’ll be glad when everything is back to it’s regularly scheduled programming, because I’m getting tired of re-runs.  Maybe I should start watching the food network again…

Apparently, The T.V. Is Not Gone

Remember last week, when I was talking about how t.v. was going to be gone for a few weeks because of the holidays?

I was wrong.  A few shows went on their break last week, but there were a few that fooled me!  Apparently, they were talking a week off so they could air an episode before signing off for the year.  So I will now be trying to catch up on Revenge and Person Of Interest, and try to find something to watch.

I’ve decided to not do Writing Wednesday.  You know, the day I was supposed to talk about writing?  Well, I’m not writing, and rather than talk about how I’m not working on any of my novels once a week, I’ve decided to temporarily drop it.  If/when I start that up again, it’ll make an appearance, but until then, I’ll be talking about other stuff.  I currently have an astounding 8 books that are either being read, will be read, or are finished, so expect quite a few book reviews.  That’s partly why I’m not talking about writing, because I have too many books to get through!  Although once things settle down, I may have to start doing writing prompts or something.  I’ll definitely have to recap my book reading at some point.

I’m done baking my mom’s cookies and now I just need to finish my grandma’s scarf.  Plus, I need to bake some brownies, more cookies, and some gingerbread men for Christmas.  My multi-tasking will definitely be put to the test!

Where Has All The T.V. Gone?

Now that it’s the holidays, t.v. has gone on a vacation until the new year.  It’s slightly annoying, but I guess the actors needs a break, right?  Besides, it’ll give me a chance to catch up on Revenge and Person Of Interest, since I’m woefully behind on both shows.  I definitely like Revenge, and Person of Interest is interesting.  I like it, but I’m still on the fence about it.

America’s Next Top Model had their season finale this week, and it was certainly interesting.  I wanted Allison to win, but no such luck.  However, the last 20 minutes!  That was a very unexpected twist- they had to reshoot the final judging, since information came out about Angelea that disqualified her from the competition.  And they wanted to judge both Allison and Lisa on their own.  Absolutely no explanation of what happened with Angelea, but all signs point to her winning and posting that she won on Facebook.  It’s just a rumor, but it does seem likely.  And the way she was portrayed would certainly indicate she’d be the type to shout it to the world.  But who wouldn’t?  Still, for someone who really wanted to win, why would you potentially mess it up to post it on Facebook or whatever?

Then again, who knows why anyone does anything?  I’m sure next season will be interesting too, but I’m sad Andre Leon Talley is leaving the show.

I’m not sure what else to say about t.v., other than I’ll probably get far too used to reruns of stuff.

Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is one of my all-time favorite shows, and I was so sad when it was cancelled!  I first came across Gilmore Girls on ABC Family, where they show reruns every weekday, and unfortunately, I only managed to watch 7 season (the last season) in it’s entirety.  I had only seen random episodes of the previous 5 season, and missed season 6 completely, so everything didn’t make sense.  Thanks to the wonder that is TV on DVD, I managed to get all 7 seasons, and watched the entire show in it’s entirety.

Listening to the Gilmore Girls Re-watch podcast, I felt inspired and compelled to re-watch the series.  I’ve seen each episode a few times, so I’m not confused or anything, but it’s a lot more fun listening to it when I’ve seen the episode right before listening.

It’s a great show, with a lot of great dialogue, witty banter, and pop culture references that go right over my head.  Plus, the relationships between all of the characters is really interesing.

I suppose it would be a good idea to talk about what the show is actually about, right?  It’s about Lorelei Gilmore and her daughter Lorelei (nickname: Rory) and their lives in fictional Stars Hollow.  I like the relationship between Rory and her mom, and the very different relationships that both Lorelei’s have with Richard and Emily, who are Rory’s grandparents and Lorelei’s parents.  The biggest thing, though, is the fact that Lorelei got pregnant at 16 and then left home some time after having Rory.  I also love the very colorful people of Stars Hallow- Miss Patty, Babette, Kirk, Luke and Taylor, to name a few.  And of course, Sookie, Lorelei’s best friend and Lane, who is Rory’s best friend.  And Paris…I could go on listing the different characters.

Listening to the podcast has really helped me think about the show in a different way- one cohost (Arkle) is a fan of the show, and Angela (another cohost) is watching the series for the first time.  It’s hilarious when Arkle brings something up, and it’s clear, it’s not trying to spoil anything for Angela.  They’ve had a couple cohosts- Colleen, who was around for a while, and now someone else (I think her name is Nina) when Colleen had to leave.  Both are fans of the show as well, and around the same age as Rory is in the 1st 3 seasons.  It’s really interesting to hear Angela’s point of view since she sometime brings up things I never thought about.  Rewatching the show, I definitely don’t like Dean and I’m glad it didn’t work out with Rory.  If only they could combine Dean’s companionship with Jess’ reading a lot and Logan’s spontaneity…then you’d have a great guy for Rory!

Sometimes, Rory is a little Mary Sue-ish for me.  I can relate to liking school and reading a lot, but sometimes…she’s a little too perfect.  In contrast to her mom, who has made some mistakes.  It’s definitely referenced several times throughout the first 3 seasons that Lorelei has let down her parents and severely disappointed them and that whole bit.  I wonder if it’s done on purpose to show that while the hopes and dreams Richard and Emily had for Lorelei didn’t happen, it could happen with Rory, who is definitely the child they wanted to Lorelei to be.

It’s been pretty fun rewatching it, and I may have to start doing that with a few other shows I like…

I Like Everything!

Seriously, there’s some good tv on right now.  Pan Am is growing me, and so is Person of Interest and Revenge.  House is going to be interesting, America’s Next Top Model is full of drama and I’m not sure about Terra Nova, since it’s really starting to remind me of Lost.

I love Lost, but as Terra Nova goes on, it’s really starting to remind me of Lost.  I think it’s a combination of the Sixers (hello, the Others!), the mysterious runes on the rocks near the waterfalls and the fact that there is some mysterious purpose to Terra Nova.  You know, something besides the fact that they’re trying to save humanity by going back in time.

I’m getting to used to watching tv online, and it’s really not as bad as I thought.  There are ads, of course, but either way there’s going to be commercials.  I don’t really mind commercials since they’re good for bathroom and snack breaks.

Going back to Person of Interest for a moment, it did give me some ideas for NaNo this year, so even t.v. can be provide inspiration.

There’s not much else to talk about t.v. wise, so I’m off, and have a great day!

Can’t Wait For Once Upon A Time

I’ve settled into my “tv watching schedule” now, and I’m really enjoying everything so far.  Once Upon A Time is being pretty heavily advertised, and I can’t wait!  Jennifer Morrison on House was okay, but I can’t really tell whether her character is similar to Dr Cameron or not.  I guess I’ll find out in a week-ish, when it premieres.

I really liked NCIS this week.  We learned Abby was adopted, and she meets her biological brother.  It was nice learning more about her and her family, and I hope we learn more about them.  First a McGee-centric episode, then an Abby one!  I wonder who’s next…I hope it’s Ducky or Jimmy.

Everything is going okay, but I’m behind on Person of Interest and Revenge.  I’m positive I’ll catch up, since it’s only the last couple episodes for each one that I need to watch.  I have to say, this watching tv online thing is really interesting, and the great thing is that it’s not hard to catch up.  My problem is that I like to sit and watch it on a tv, and it’s a little hard sometimes getting myself to sit down and watch it.  I have no idea why, since I’m (essentially) watching it on some sort of screen.  But there’s this part of me that’s insistent tv should be on a tv, and not a computer.  I’m sure in a few months I’ll be raving about how amazing watching tv online is…or maybe not.  Who knows?

But I really like everything so far, and it’s keeping me entertained.  Go good tv!
