Genre: Adult Thriller

In this gripping thriller set in New Zealand, New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh takes you into the twisted world of an exclusive cul-de-sac located on the edge of a sprawling forest.

My mother vanished ten years ago.
So did a quarter of a million dollars in cash.
Thief. Bitch. Criminal.
Now, she’s back.
Her bones clothed in scarlet silk.

When socialite Nina Rai disappeared without a trace, everyone wrote it off as another trophy wife tired of her wealthy husband.

But now her bones have turned up in the shadowed green of the forest that surrounds her elite neighborhood, a haven of privilege and secrets that’s housed the same influential families for decades.

The rich live here, along with those whose job it is to make their lives easier. And somebody knows what happened to Nina one rainy night ten years ago.

Her son Aarav heard a chilling scream that night, and he’s determined to uncover the ugly truth that lives beneath the moneyed elegance…but no one is ready for the murderous secrets about to crawl out of the dark.

Even the dead aren’t allowed to break the rules in this cul-de-sac.

I did not like this book as much as I thought I would.

I’ve really enjoyed her Psy-Changeling and Guild Hunter series, and thought I’d give some of her other books a try.  I was confused for pretty much the whole book, and was really close to not even finishing it.  But I decided to keep reading, just so I’d know what happened to Aarav’s mom.

I had trouble keeping track of who was who, and how they were connected to each other and to Aarav.  There were a lot of characters in this book, and even after finishing, I couldn’t begin to tell you who the characters were and how they were all related.

It’s a pretty complex case, what happened to Nina Rai.  It was a surprise to see why she disappeared and who had a hand in her disappearance.  And for her to be so close, but no one knowing about it for a solid decade…that doesn’t surprise me, that she wasn’t far from home, but the person involved was not the person I expected.

I think what made this book hard to get through is how confused and unreliable Aarav is.  He has a lot of issues, and some memory issues on top of that.  Maybe that’s why the book seemed so confusing to me- because Aarav had his own issues he was dealing with.  Some of it is explained, but there’s a lot he doesn’t remember.  The story was repetitive at times, and it would have been nice to get outside of his head a little bit.  Just to see what other people think happened, you know?

At any rate, I think I prefer her romances- I just wasn’t thrilled with this book, and I had a hard time keeping track of the characters and what was going on.

1 star.  I really wanted to like this one, but I struggled to get through it.

Book Review: Cherish Hard by Nalini Singh

Book: Cherish Hard by Nalini Singh

Where I Got It: I borrowed the e-book from the library

Series: Hard Play #1

Genre: Adult Contemporary

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh kicks off her new Hard Play contemporary romance series with a sizzling story that’ll leave you smiling…

Sailor Bishop has only one goal for his future – to create a successful landscaping business. No distractions allowed. Then he comes face-to-face and lips-to-lips with a woman who blushes like an innocent… and kisses like pure sin.

Ísa Rain craves a man who will cherish her, aches to create a loving family of her own. Trading steamy kisses with a hot gardener in a parking lot? Not the way to true love. Then a deal with the devil (aka her CEO-mother) makes Ísa a corporate VP for the summer. Her main task? Working closely with a certain hot gardener.

And Sailor Bishop has wickedness on his mind.

As Ísa starts to fall for a man who makes her want to throttle and pounce on him at the same time, she knows she has to choose – play it safe and steady, or risk all her dreams and hope Sailor doesn’t destroy her heart.

I liked Cherish Hard, but not as much as her Guild Hunter series or her Psy-Changling series.  I really like those series, and thought I’d give some of her other books a try.  This book seemed like a good starting point, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

I had a hard time with the fact that it takes place in the real world.  New Zealand was a great setting, but after reading two really long series that take place in a more magical/futuristic setting, I had a hard time with present time and real world.  I didn’t feel completely invested in Isa and Sailor’s relationship, though I really felt for Isa and the horrible family she has to deal with.  Honestly, Singh is great at writing horrible parents, but cool siblings and friendships.  But I just wasn’t into the romance in this book, and I’m not sure why.

Sailor was a little too perfect, and somehow managed to have his whole life planned out at the age of 23.  I’m 34, and even now, my life is nowhere close to being planned out the way his life is.  And I get Isa’s insecurities- who wouldn’t be with her mother, and the way she was publicly dumped several years earlier- but there was something a little too sweet and angelic about her.  Something about it seemed off, and they seemed a little more bland than some of the other characters Singh has written.

The book didn’t have a lot of drama, and overall, it was enjoyable.  It didn’t have the drama or tension I was expecting, but then again, I don’t usually read a lot of contemporary romance- historical and paranormal are much more my speed when it comes to romance, so that might be part of why I didn’t love Cherish Hard but still enjoyed it.

It was nice to see a romance where the heroine is older than the hero- it was refreshing to see it, because usually, the guy is older.  I wish we saw this more in romance, but maybe it’s there, and I just haven’t come across one that’s memorable enough to stick with me.  Or come across one at all- either one’s possible.

I don’t know if I’ll keep reading this particular series- I believe the series focuses on a different brother, so I might pick one up.  I also might not pick one up, but I am curious to see if I’ll like any of her contemporaries more.

3 stars.  I didn’t love it, but it was enjoyable, and a quick read.  I wasn’t super into the romance, but I did like that Isa was older than Sailor.

Series: Guild Hunter’s #13

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

A horrifying secret rises in the aftermath of an archangelic war in New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s deadly and beautiful Guild Hunter world…

The Archangel of Death and the Archangel of Disease may be gone but their legacy of evil lives on—especially in Africa, where the shambling, rotting creatures called the reborn have gained a glimmer of vicious intelligence.

It is up to Titus, archangel of this vast continent, to stop the reborn from spreading across the world. Titus can’t do it alone, but of the surviving powerful angels and archangels, large numbers are wounded, while the rest are fighting a surge of murderous vampires.

There is no one left…but the Hummingbird. Old, powerful, her mind long a broken kaleidoscope. Now, she must stand at Titus’s side against a tide of death upon a discovery more chilling than any other. For the Archangel of Disease has left them one last terrible gift…

I really liked Archangel’s Sun! I’ve really enjoyed this series, and I’m glad the story is continuing!

This book focuses on Titus and the Hummingbird and it picks up where Archangel’s War left off.  It’s definitely hard for everyone, and there’s a lot of work to do.  There are some pretty terrible surprises along the way, but everything works out in the end.

It’s been a while since I’ve read any of the books in the series, so I was a little bit fuzzy on some of the details.  The really nice thing about this book was that I could be a little bit fuzzy on the details and still know what was going on.  And what had happened before, of course.  A little refresher would have been nice, but at any rate, my fuzziness didn’t get in the way of me enjoying this novel.

I really like the Hummingbird!  She’s had a lot to deal with, and she is easily one of my favorite characters in the series now.  I’m glad she got her own book, because she’s been mentioned before, and I really liked getting her story.  I’m glad things worked out for her, and that she got some happiness.  She’s empathetic and a fierce warrior and this really amazing artist.  She’s different from Titus in a lot of ways, but I really like them together!

I liked Titus too, and even though I remembered his name coming up before, that was all I remembered about him.  We learned a little bit about him, and it sounds like he has quite the family.  But I was a lot more interested in Sharine’s story, and I wanted to know everything about her.  I didn’t feel the same way about Titus, but I think they’ll be really good for each other.  I know we won’t get another book focusing on them, but we’ll for sure see what’s going on with them in the future.  Especially with Sharine’s connections to some of the other characters.

I liked seeing Titus and Sharine work together- he really underestimated her, which is understandable, but she also completely proved him wrong.  She took the time to listen to his people and wasn’t intimidated by him.  She really was the best choice to help him deal with the reborn.  And he really did respect her and listen to her, which was nice.  And I really appreciated seeing that.  I’m not sure why, but I did.  She brought a certain kindness and grace to everything she did, which I loved, and she didn’t let what happened destroy her.  I think that’s why I loved her so much.

4 stars.  I really liked Archangel’s Sun- especially Sharine and her backstory!  I can’t wait to read the next book!

Series: Guild Hunter #12

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

Wings of silver. Wings of blue. Mortal heart. Broken dreams. Shatter. Shatter. Shatter. A sundering. A grave. I see the end. I see. . .

The world is in chaos as the power surge of the Cascade rises to a devastating crescendo. In furiously resisting its attempts to turn Elena into a vessel for Raphael’s power, Elena and her archangel are irrevocably changed. . .far beyond the prophecy of a cursed Ancient.

At the same time, violent and eerie events around the world threaten to wipe out entire populations. And in the Archangel Lijuan’s former territory, an unnatural fog weaves through the land, leaving only a bone-chilling silence in its wake. Soon it becomes clear that even the archangels are not immune to this deadly evil. This time, even the combined power of the Cadre may not be enough. . .

This war could end them all.

I really liked Archangel’s War!  I’ve been really into this series, and I caught up in time to read this book.

I loved seeing what was going on, and how everything went with Lijuan.  If there’s someone who won’t die, it’s the Goddess Of Death.  Her abilities were terrible but also amazing, and she went to great lengths to gain more power- enough to take over the world.  That was definitely her goal, and I was glad that it didn’t happen.

After finishing the last book, I was wondering what would happen to Elena and Raphael.  They’re okay, and all of our favorites are okay too.  I know there were some questions they had- and I had them too- but I’m glad they were answered, and were able to figure it out to defeat Lijuan.  She’s definitely the big bad in this series, and I was wondering not only what had happened to her, but how they’d take her down.

Back to Raphael and Elena- things were definitely different for both them, and for pretty much the entire book.  Everything that we saw happen to Elena were still very present in this book, but things did get righted at the end of the book.  I was glad to see that because being an angel was very much a part of Elena.  Especially with what happened to her wings.

I really liked seeing what was going on with the Ancients- and the ancients that are Calienne and Alexander, but those who were Ancient beyond words.  They didn’t realize how bad things were, and how hard it would be to defeat Lijuan, but they were all able to work together, even though they might now have wanted to.

This book was action-packed, and it was definitely hard to put down.  We follow several characters, and quite a few pop in and out.  It was great to see everyone again but I wished we had gotten to spend a little more time with all of them.  It felt like non-stop action from start to finish, and I think this series ended on a great note.  I wonder if there’s going to be a spin-off of some sort.  I know her Psy-Changeling series had another series, and I wonder if that’s in store for this one as well.  With how it ended, and with the world Singh built, I think there’s a lot more story she could tell in this world.

4 stars.  I really liked Archangel’s War, and it’s a great way to end a really cool and interesting series.

Book Review: Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh

Book: Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh

Published October 2018 by Penguin|368 pages

Where I Got It: I borrowed the e-book from the library

Series: Guild Hunter #11

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s darkly passionate Guild Hunter world, where human-turned-angel Elena Deveraux, consort to Archangel Raphael, is thrust center stage into an eons-old prophecy….

Midnight and dawn, Elena’s wings are unique among angelkind…and now they’re failing. The first mortal to be turned into an immortal in angelic memory, she’s regressing. Becoming more and more human. Easier to hurt. Easier to kill.

Elena and Raphael must unearth the reason for the regression before it’s too late and Elena falls out of the sky. Yet even as they fight a furious battle for Elena’s very survival, violent forces are gathering in New York and across the world.

In China, the Archangel Favashi is showing the first signs of madness. In New York, a mysterious sinkhole filled with lava swallows a man whole. In Africa, torrential monsoon rains flood rolling deserts. And in Elena’s mind whispers a haunting voice that isn’t her own.

This time, survival may not be possible…not even for the consort of an archangel.

I really liked Archangel’s Prophecy!  There was a lot going on, and I didn’t want the book to end.  It makes glad that there’s another book, because I really want to know what happens to Elena and Raphael.

There’s a lot going on with Elena, and everything going on with her wings, and the owls had me intrigued.  Obviously, a prophecy is going on, and I wish it had been a little more resolved in this book.  Still, knowing there’s another book after this one really helps because I’m hoping we’ll get some answers.  I did like seeing Elena try to figure it out and try to work around it.

Singh is pretty good with that, so I’m hopeful we’ll get more on what’s going on with the prophecy and the angel who predicted it.  Is Elena completely mortal now, or is she something else completely?  Is she going to be like Holly?  Inquiring minds want to know, but I suppose I’ll wait and see.

I actually wanted more about Cassandra.  It seems like prophecies was not a good thing for her, and for some reason, it reminded me of Cassandra from Greek mythology.  I didn’t get the impression people didn’t believe her prophecies, but I am wondering if Singh pulled from Greek mythology for Cassandra.  I’d really like more backstory on Cassandra.

I did think everything going on with Favashi was interesting.  It seems like there’s always an archangel showing signs of madness, and Favashi is just the latest.  I did want to know more about it, because it was a pretty important part of the book.  Is it because China is her territory, or was it going to happen regardless?

If it is China…what the heck is going on over there that those archangels end up power hungry and setting themselves up to take over the world?  We know what happened with Lijuan but it’s still too early to tell for Favashi.  Still…it does not look good for Favashi, especially if she does end up following a path similar to Lijuan’s.  Hopefully, they’re able to stop it before it gets worse and she gets really powerful.

4 stars.  I really liked Archangel’s Prophecy, and I can’t wait to read the next book!

Book: Archangel’s Viper by Nalini Singh

Published September 2017 by Penguin|361 pages

Where I Got It: I borrowed the e-book from the library

Series: Guild Hunter #10

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

Enter New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s breathtakingly passionate Guild Hunter world with the story of a woman who isn’t a vampire or an angel…or human…

Once a broken girl known as Sorrow, Holly Chang now prowls the shadowy gray underground of the city for the angels. But it’s not her winged allies who make her a wanted woman–it’s the unknown power coursing through her veins. Brutalized by an insane archangel, she was left with the bloodlust of a vampire, the ability to mesmerize her prey, and a poisonous bite.

Now, someone has put a bounty on her head…

Venom is one of the Seven, Archangel Raphael’s private guard, and he’s as infuriating as he is seductive. A centuries-old vampire, his fangs dispense a poison deadlier than Holly’s. But even if Venom can protect Holly from those hunting her, he might not be able to save himself–because the strange, violent power inside Holly is awakening…

No one is safe.

I liked Archangel’s Viper!  I had actually forgotten about both Holly and Venom but I was glad to get their story.  Especially Holly’s story.

I really liked Holly, and it was good to get her story and to see how she was doing.  Now that I think about she has been randomly mentioned since the first book, but she hasn’t come up a lot since then.  This is actually the most I think we’ve seen her since the first book, where she gets caught up with Uram.  I really felt for Holly, and in this book, we really see the damage that has been done.

Speaking of Uram, I was not expecting him to come up as much as he did.  Holly is a pretty important person in this book, so it makes sense Uram would come up.  I just didn’t expect how he came up.  That threw me for a loop, and I really hope he’s gone.  Then again, the same thing could be said about Lijuan, but it seems like Uram is gone for good.  I really thought he was gone before, but it seems to be especially true after this book.

Holly and Venom are okay together.  I didn’t love them, but they do seem to be drawn together.  They worked together a lot in this book, and by the end of the book, you could tell that he wanted her to be okay.  With everything that happened to her, I totally get why he acted the way he did, and he certainly seemed protective of her.

I think I just didn’t feel the romance between them.  There’s interest and fascination throughout the book, but you didn’t see romance until the end of the book.  By then, I just didn’t care.  With all of the other characters, it felt like the romance was there from the very beginning, but it seemed like we didn’t get it with this book.

Even though though the romance is very, very minimal, I did like the story as it related to Uram, Holly, and even Michaela.  I already mentioned that I wasn’t expecting Uram to show up the way he did but I’m glad we got some closure for Holly, and that her story is pretty much wrapped up.  At least, it is for me.

3 stars.  I liked Archangel’s Viper, and while I’m glad we got more of Holly, I wasn’t particularly enthused with the minimal romance in this one.

Series: Guild Hunter #9

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh takes us into a dangerous and exhilarating world where a deadly, beautiful archangel and his once-mortal consort are caught in a fury of twisted darkness…

One of the most vicious archangels in the world has disappeared. No one knows if Lijuan is dead or has chosen to Sleep the long sleep of an immortal. But with her lands falling into chaos under a rising tide of vampiric bloodlust, a mysterious and ancient order of angels known as the Luminata calls the entire Cadre together to discuss the fate of her territory.

Accompanying her archangelic lover Raphael to the Luminata compound, guild hunter-turned-angel Elena senses that all is not as it seems. Secrets echo from within the stone walls of the compound, and the deeper Elena goes, the uglier the darkness. But neither Raphael nor Elena is ready for the brutal truths hidden within—truths that will change everything Elena thinks she knows about who she is…

Nothing will ever be the same again.

I really liked this one!  I’m glad we got back to Raphael and Elena, because I’ve really missed seeing them in a book.  It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve had a book focus on them.

This book is set a couple of years after the last one, and things start off pretty normal.  They don’t stay that way, of course, but at least things aren’t completely crazy.  At least initially.  There’s a lot going on in this book and with everything that happens, it makes me wonder what will happen in the next few books.

I think what I liked most about this book was learning more about Elena’s family.  We’ve learned some things about her dad’s side of the family- basically, the hunter ability comes from him but this book focuses more on her mom’s side of the family.  We learn about (and meet) her grandparents, and it’s nice to know she’ll have some family around long after her siblings and friends go.  We finally learn where the vampire in the family comes from, and I’m glad it came up.  I was wondering if we would ever see that come up again, and we actually did.  I’m glad that it went somewhere.

The Luminata were a pretty interesting group.  They turn out to be not so great, of course, and they definitely deserved what happened to them.  Hopefully, they’re able to turn things around and do better then what they’ve done.  There is quite the mystery surrounding them and it was nice to see it get solved.  I’m not surprised that it had to do with Elena, because they did act pretty strange around her.

We don’t get a lot in terms of the Cascade and how much it’s changing things- as Elena said, it was on pause, but it makes me feel like things are going to get super-interesting going forward.  With not knowing what’s going on with Lijuan, and if she’s really dead or just Sleeping…who knows what the future holds for these characters?  Actually, I’m pretty sure Lijuan isn’t dead, because I feel like we’d know it if she was.  After all, how many times have we tried to kill her and it doesn’t seem to work?  Not having a clear answer on where she is and what she’s doing is not a good sign, and I have the feeling she’s just going to pop up out of nowhere stronger than ever.

4 stars.  I really liked Archangel’s Heart, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Book Review: Archangel’s Enigma by Nalini Singh

Book: Archangel’s Enigma by Nalini Singh

Series: Guild Hunter #8

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

Naasir is the most feral of the powerful group of vampires and angels known as the Seven, his loyalty pledged to the Archangel Raphael. When rumors surface of a plot to murder the former Archangel of Persia, now lost in the Sleep of the Ancients, Naasir is dispatched to find him. For only he possesses the tracking skills required—those more common to predatory animals than to man.

Enlisted to accompany Naasir, Andromeda, a young angelic scholar with dangerous secrets, is fascinated by his nature—at once playful and brilliant, sensual and brutal. As they race to find the Sleeping archangel before it’s too late, Naasir will force her to question all she knows…and tempt her to walk into the magnificent, feral darkness of his world. But first they must survive an enemy vicious enough to shatter the greatest taboo of the angelic race and plunge the world into a screaming nightmare…

I liked Archangel’s Enigma!  The title is really fitting, considering the book focuses on Naasir.  He’s pretty mysterious, from when he’s appeared in the previous books, and it was nice to get his story.

I did mention how mysterious Naasir was, and we definitely learn a lot about him.  I did feel for him, and he’s had a lot to deal with.  It did take away a little bit of the mystery surrounding him, and I have mixed feelings about it.  It was nice to learn more about him but at the same time, I liked the mystery of wondering what was going on with him and what his story was.

Andromeda was interesting too, and I completely understand why she would take a vow of celibacy.  With the family she has, it could have gone a few different ways, but Singh did a great job at showing her hesitation and why she made the choices she did.  I really liked her, and I thought she was a smart woman.  Plus, she’s a scholar, and she seems really curious.

She and Naasir made a really interesting pair, and she was so accepting of who Naasir really was.  It went both ways, and you could tell he really cared about her.  They both accepted and saw the other for who they really were, and they really would do anything for each other.  Naasir in particular- he did help her get out of her grandfather’s court, and into a court that is a much better fit for her.  I just want Andromeda to be happy and away from her family.

3 stars.  I liked Andromeda and Naasir, especially as a couple but I do have mixed feelings about finally getting Naasir’s story.

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot—should not—be walking the streets.

This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves…

Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there’s one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash’s secret, dark and terrible, that threatens to destroy them both.

I liked Archangel’s Shadows but it’s not one of my favorites in this series

Janvier and Ashwini were interesting characters and I liked them.  Ashwini was particularly interesting, especially because of her family.  I really liked her, and though I liked Janvier, I didn’t like him as much as Ashwini.  I did like them together, and there’s definitely a connection between them, but compared to some of the other couples (mostly Elena and Raphael), they were just okay.

I liked the story, and we do see more of the world they live in.  There’s so much going on in thiis world, and I feel like we learn more about it with every passing book.  I was really interested in the grey area that we saw in this book and even though it didn’t occur to me that some of the vampires might have “cattle,” it did make sense.  It made me sad to see that there were women dependent on these vampires for support, but it also doesn’t surprise me.

We also see the aftermath of the battle and how the Tower is trying to deal with some of the rumors and stories circulating around town.  No one can catch a break but Ash and Janvier do get their HEA.  It is romance after all, and no romance is complete without having a happily ever after.  I’m glad Ash told Janvier her hesitations and family history.  It did make sense for why she didn’t want to be a vampire, but she did come around.

Even though I like the characters and story, and was glad to read about Janvier and Ash, I also wasn’t super into the story or the pairing.  I don’t know why, but it felt like something was missing.  According to the author’s note at the end of the book, there is a novella that goes into more detail about their relationship.  I don’t think it’s necessary to read it, because you do get their story and you know what’s going on.  Plus, you do get hints throughout the previous books that mention both Ash and Janvier.  Still, I can’t help but wonder if that’s the missing piece for this book.  That might not be the case for other readers, but it might be for me.

3 stars.  I liked Archangel’s Shadow but it’s not my favorite in this series.

Book: Archangel’s Legion by Nalini Singh

Published October 2013 by Penguin|384 pages

Where I Got It: I borrowed the e-book from the library

Series: Guild Hunter #6

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

Nalini Singh, the New York Times bestselling “alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) returns to an immortal world of violent passion and lethal power…on the brink of a deadly archangelic war.

Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force.

Vampires are dying impossibly of disease.

Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York a ruin and Raphael’s Tower under siege by enemy archangels.

Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York…and on Raphael. Rivers of crimson and nightmares given flesh, the world will never again be the same…

I really liked Archangel’s Legion!  I definitely liked it a lot more than the last couple of books, and I’m glad we got back to Elena and Raphael.

It’s not that I don’t like reading about the other characters, because I do.  But we started with Elena and Raphael, and I’m glad their story has continued.  I just love them as a couple and they balance each other out really, really well.

There’s a lot going on with this book, and I feel like this is going to be the turning point in the series.  With a Tower that’s under siege, and the archangel’s getting more powerful, things are getting really interesting.  The world’s changing, and the Cascade is pretty much the reason for that.  I wish we knew a little bit more about it, but maybe that will come up in the books to come.

That’s what I’m hoping, anyway.  I mean, I’m sure we’ll see how much things change, and if alliances are formed between all of the arachangels, and how the divides that will form.  I’m assuming all of the archangels will be pitted against each other, but maybe they’ll all unite against one really bad force.  It’s hard to say, at least right now, but I’ll find out once I keep reading.

There’s a major battle- against Liujan, of course- and I have the feeling it’s far from over.  Things have taken a turn for the worse, and things are going to get a lot worse before they start to get better.  It’s romance, so of course everything is going to end happily ever after…at least eventually.

This world is a lot more cruel and cold, so maybe not, but you never know.  Still, I’m pretty hopeful things are going to be fine in the end.  It just might take a while to get there.

4 stars.  I really liked the story, and I’m glad we’re back to Elena and Raphael!  Hopefully, we’ll stay with them for a while but with things going the way they are, I have the feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of other characters.  It’s not going to stop me from reading on to see what happens.
