Top Ten Songs That Make Me Think Of Books

This week is a freebie, which means we get to pick our own topic!  It’s always fun to think of some bookish list I want to do, and this week I decided to go with song that make me think of books.  I love listening to music while I read, and whether a song makes me think of a character or a book, or even something I listened to on repeat while reading a book, the two are always going to have a close connection for me.

- Hall Of Fame by The Script makes me think of…This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales.  I was re-reading TSWSYL recently, and Hall Of Fame happened to pop up, and I feel like Hall Of Fame goes really well with Elise’s story…especially her life as a DJ.

- Sleeping With A Friend by Neon Trees makes me think of…The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han.  The song title alone seems oddly appropriate, given the love triangle.  But it’s also a good summer song, and for some reason, it just really fits the series as a whole.

- Royals by Lorde makes me think of…Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.  Actually, Royals made me think of several other books, but it really makes me think of Vampire Academy.  Mostly because it makes me think of Rose and Lissa, but it also seems to fit the school as well.

- Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling featuring Lzzy Hale makes me think of…If I Stay by Gayle Forman.  It’s mostly because of the violin, which made me think of the cello-playing Mia, and the song just seems to go well with everything going on in the book.

- This Is How We Roll by Florida Georgia Line featuring Luke Bryan…makes me think of In Honor by Jessi Kirby.  Florida Georgia Line would be great to listen to on a road trip.  Plus, the boots on the cover make me think of country music, and if there’s one kind of music I’d listen to on a road trip and not be sick of it by the end of the trip, it would be country music.

- Feel Again by OneRepublic makes me think of…The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson.  This song really makes me think of Lennie and Joe, and how Lennie’s trying to deal with the loss of her sister.

- Believe by The Bravery makes me think of…10 Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker.  I actually have no explanation for this one. Believe just makes me think of Ten Tiny Breaths for some reason. Actually, it kind of makes me think of Kacey, but I think this is one of those things that have absolutely no explanation.

- Evil Beauty by Blackmill makes me think of…Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl.  There’s something moody about this song that somehow fits with this entire series, but especially the first book.

- Stay Beautiful by The Last Goodnight makes me think of…Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.  Random Tidbit: this song is what inspired today’s list, because it randomly came up on my iPod the other day, and it made me think of how I listened to it on repeat when I was reading Twilight.  Which led to thoughts about how it would be a great blog post, and here we are.

- The entirety of wizard rock makes me think of…Harry Potter.  I just love that there’s an entire genre of Harry Potter-inspired music.  I know I’ve seen Hunger Games-inspired music (if anyone knows of a good version of Rue’s lullaby, let me know!), and I’m sure some of the more popular YA books may have some book-inspired music out there, which is really cool.  But wizard rock has a special place in my heart, because it is what got me (sort of) interested in book-inspired music.  There isn’t any song in particular I wanted to share, but it’s still pretty awesome.
