The Colors of Happiness

Writing Prompt: What colour makes you think of happiness?

It’s a toss-up between yellow and blue.

I know yellow is such a cliche, but it’s such a happy color.  It makes me think of summer and rollerblading up and down the street, and hanging upside on the bar that we had in the backyard.

As for blue…let’s see.  It’s definitely a very calming color, and when I’m calm, I’m pretty happy.  Plus, blue makes me think of the sky, and the beach.  Not that I really go to the beach, because I’m way too self-conscious to actually wear a bathing suit, and wearing a t-shirt and shorts at the beach is just silly.  Plus, I’m too lazy to drive to the beach.

Anyway, blue.  And yellow.  Together, they make me think of sunny days, and sunny days make me happy.  Seriously.  I feel a lot more depressed when it’s raining and cloudy.

There isn’t anything else to report as far as writing or reading goes.

Birthdays

Writing Prompt: How do you feel when it’s your birthday? Why?

I’m pretty ambivalent about my birthday.  It was cool when I was a kid (which really wasn’t that long ago) because of birthday parties and cake and everything.  Now I’m like, meh.  Like my 21st birthday was…pretty abnormal, from the way I’ve heard some friends talk about it.  My reaction was, “I can drink?  Big deal.”  But then again, my grandpa didn’t drink anything, and my mom and my grandma did very rarely, like only at birthdays or other special occasions.

But back to celebrating my birthday.  I’m not sure why I’m not big on celebrating my birthday, but it’s seriously not a big deal to me.  My idea of a fun birthday is watching a movie and going to the bookstore.  Or something like that.  I really have an odd idea of fun.

In Other News:

I added about 200 words or so to Turning Point yesterday, and it was pretty exciting.  I think it may have been the spark I needed to get back on the novel-writing train, because I’m more excited about getting back to work on everything than I have been in a while.

And I’ve already done my once-a-month baked good resolution: yet another chocolate chip cookie.  It’s a lot different than any other chocolate chip cookie I’ve made- I really love chocolate chip cookies.  They tend to be my default thing I bring to parties.  And I make everything from scratch.  Or I try to anyway.  Stuff made from scratch just seems to taste better than the boxed stuff from the store.

Socks!

Today is another writing prompt day!

Today’s Prompt: What would you do if your new shoes felt fine in the store but now they are hurting?

I’ve lost track of how many times that has happened to me!  It’s pretty much been when I’ve tried to break in new flats at work.  Usually it takes a couple days to break them in because I’d stand and walk around a lot, but then I was fine.  Band-aids helped, as did those liner sock things.  The ones that go over your feet and are no-show?  Those were definitely a lifesaver, and saved me a lot of band-aids and time trying to find new pairs of shoes.  Not that having a lot of shoes is a problem, but it frustrating breaking in new shoes at work.

And speaking of socks, I’ve taken to wearing patterned socks lately.  And mismatching them!  Not that I wear socks often, since I pretty much wear flip-flops all the time, but if I’m going to wear socks at home, why not mismatch?  It’s not like anyone is going to see.  And I like to think that I’m honoring Dobby’s memory by doing so.

In other news, I’ve expanded my top ten book list to 24, which I’ll post at some point.  I was aiming for 25 books, but I failed to come up with a 25th book, so I’ll leave it at 24 for now.

I’ve settled on a schedule for all my novels and projects, but I have yet to stick to it.  I have been writing in my journal, and I’ve been updating my blog (obviously, right?), so I have been writing, it just hasn’t been anything super creative.  The main problem I have is actually sitting down and doing it- I have no problem during November, so it shouldn’t be a problem the rest of the year.  I think it’s a mental thing.

I also haven’t read any of November’s novels, which is weird because usually I’ve read them by now.  They should be pretty entertaining once I get around to it- anytime I need a good laugh, I try to re-read my NaNo novels because the stuff that I end up writing is always a surprise.

Writing Prompt!

I’ve done a couple writing prompts this year, and they really are fun.  Just writing about the topic kind of de-clutters my brain, and I’m starting to find that it gets my mind going.

Today’s prompt is: what do you think about while you exercise?

Mostly how long I’ve been there, and much longer I have to go, which is why I try to cover up the timer with my towel, so I don’t think about it.  Not that it stops me from looking every few minutes, because it really doesn’t.  I spend a lot of time thinking about what song I should listen to next.  Or if I happen to be looking at one of the tv screens, whatever I happen to be watching.  Sometimes random stuff that I don’t remember.  Other times it’s stuff I need to do.  It really does depend on what’s going on.

So I’ll be doing different prompts this month, but whether they’ll be continued throughout the year depends on how it goes this month, so we’ll see.
